Jets coach Alosi says he’s guilty of ‘illogical’ act for tripping Dolphins player

Dirty. Bush league. First we have pseudo-real knuckleheads on “Jersey Shore” and “Real Housewives.” Now a coach on one of the trashiest teams in sports trips a player on the other team. And while I wouldn’t justify firing Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi, I think he should be made an example of.

Alosi said he’s guilty of “an illogical act by a logical person” for tripping Nolan Carroll, who was headed down the sidelines at the New Meadowlands Stadium during the Dolphins’ win late Sunday afternoon.

During a statement to the media that lasted barely five minutes, Sal Alosi “said if he could take it back, he would,” NFL reporter Paul Schwartz said during Mike Francesa’s afternoon radio show, broadcast on WFAN 66 AM and televised by the YES Network.

Schwartz said he asked Alosi whether he stood up on the line at Head Coach Rex Ryan’s direction before sticking out his knee as Nolan Carroll ran by. Alosi said he didn’t, Schwartz said.

Alosi was escorted into interview room by members of the Jets PR staff. No member of the Jets’ management attended.

This angered Francesa.

“WHERE IS THE ORGANIZATION?” the radio host shouted. “You send him back out there by himself? He already said he was sorry yesterday. What is the point?”

Alosi, who was clearly ashamed of his actions, said his actions were “inexcusable and irresponsible” and that he’s “ready to accept whatever’s coming his way,” Schwartz said. However, he told Francesa that Alosi said he hasn’t been told what his punishment will be — either from the team or from the league.
