Ramsey Hockey Coach Fired Over Athlete Alleging Insufficient Playing Time

RAMSEY, N.J. — The Ramsey High School hockey coach was recently fired because the board of education president's son felt he did not get enough time on the ice, NJ.com reports.

Dean Portas spent one season with the team and also had two years of experience coaching Fair Lawn, the article says. He led the team to its fourth championship his first year of coaching.

His athlete, James Gasparovich — whose father is BOE President Tony Gasparovich — allegedly quit the team because he felt he didn't get enough playing time, according to NJ.com.
