BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Sixth grade students at Roy W. Brown Middle School in Bergenfield recently participated in a PlastiVan science lab.
PlastiVan is a program of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) designed to excite kids about the science and the opportunities the plastics industry has to offer. PlastiVan features the chemistry, manufacturing and application of plastics.
The hands-on program sparked scientific curiosity in their students while increasing knowledge of the contributions plastics make to modern life, teachers said.
Students were introduced to polymers and a variety of plastics, and learned about various careers in the field of engineering.
Objects were dissected so that students could have a better understanding of the innovation and engineering that goes into the products we use daily.
The PlastiVan program travels to schools and companies throughout the country, visiting one school each day to educate people of all ages about plastics chemistry, history, processing, manufacturing, sustainability and application
