BERGENFIELD, N.J. — A group of Bergenfield middle school students placed in the top three of a national math competition.

Seven Roy W. Brown Middle School students placed in the AMC-8 contest ran by Mathematical Association of America. The contest was held in November but the results were not announced until late December.

Bergenfield sixth-grader Christian Guillen won first place in his grade.

Eighth-graders Angelica Castillo and Nicole Millari finished tied for second place.

Kevin Wood, eighth grade, Madison Kaszner, sixth grade, Angelica Amores eighth grade, and Susan Johnson, eighth grade, were tied for third place.

AMC-8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice exam in middle school math designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills, its website states.
