Officer Gregory Post found the vehicle hidden behind a garbage bin outside the S&S Deli moments after it sped by him, Lt. Stephen Singerline said.

Seeing Post, 28-year-old Eric R. Trent bolted from the Macopin Road store into the woods behind it, he said.

The officer quickly chased him down and took Trent into custody, the lieutenant said.

Meanwhile, Officer Suzanne Novakowski was collecting information about a series of vehicle break-ins in the State Park parking lot on Otterhole Road, Singerline said.

State Park Police took over the investigation while Novakowski gave witnesses’ description of the heavily-tattooed burglar to Post.

It turned out that both the credit card and the ATV were stolen: The vehicle was taken from a township resident nearly a month ago, Singerline said.

Trent remained held without bail Wednesday in the Passaic County Jail, charged with resisting arrest, obstruction, hindering, receiving stolen property, burglarizing vehicles, theft, credit card theft and making terroristic threats, among other offenses, records show.
