NEW MILFORD, N.J. — New Milford officials must find a new animal control service for 2016 after severing a contract with its most recent provider, northjersey.com reported.

The borough's one-year pact with Bergen County Humane Enforcement, a Fort Lee-based firm unaffiliated with the county, was terminated by the council and is set to expire in December, the story says.

According to the resolution, the company’s unresponsiveness resulted in "numerous complaints" from residents and local police, it says.

The company provided its services at an annual cost of $18,500, prorated for this year to $13,104, based on the population of the borough, northjersey.com reported.
