Jermaine S. Kerr, 32, of Paterson told the Samaritan he was going to get a gun from his car and kill him for interfering during the incident on West Main Street just after 5:30 p.m. last Friday, Lt. Joseph Soto said.

Kerr then used his car to ram the other man’s vehicle, which had a juvenile passenger, Soto said Wednesday.

Responding officers found the two fighting in the street, the lieutenant said.

Kerr's car was impounded and he was taken to the Bergen County Jail before a judge ordered him released less than 24 hours later under New Jersey’s 2017 Bail Reform & Speedy Trial Act.

Kerry is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, child endangerment and disorderly conduct.

He also received traffic summonses for DWI, DWI in a school zone, careless driving, reckless driving, reusing to submit breath samples and both having and drinking from an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, Soto said.

No serious injuries were reported.
