The argument between Mark Morris and Annette Torres began in their home across from Bergenfield High School in the afternoon or early evening Friday, Grewal said.

Authorities were called after the couple's 11-year-old son found the body of his mother in an upstairs room and his father's in a basement utility room Saturday morning, the prosecutor said.

Detectives seized two handguns from the residence: one a .25 caliber and the other a 9mm, he said. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Ballistics Unit was examining and testing them, he said.

The couple had four children and a history of domestic issues, Grewal said.
