Photos: Van Plows Through Snow Pile, Tree, Into Dumont Pole

DUMONT, N.J. -- An out-of-control passenger van loaded with soda bottles jumped a sidewalk, plowed through a snow pile, uprooted a tree, then slammed into a telephone pole in Dumont Wednesday afternoon.

The driver sustained a cut on his head in the crash just before 3 p.m. on westbound Madison Avenue west of the Camp Merritt Memorial Circle, which spilled a half dozen or so bottles into the street.

That side of the circle was closed for a block for just under an hour as workers cut sections from the tree and the van was removed.
