A fully involved storefront fire destroyed Foster Stationery -- and damaged businesses on either side -- in the Foster Village shopping center on Washington Avenue in Bergenfield just after 4:30 a.m. Aid came from Dumont, New Milford, Ridgefield Park, Teaneck and Tenafly.

A Dumont firefighter rescued a cat from beneath a couch as an upstairs blaze Saturday night gutted a home on Merritt Avenue.

A home on Vanore Drive in Fair Lawn sustained damage, as well, in blaze that some believe was caused by a lightning strike.

A fire was also reported overnight at the former Marcal building in Elmwood Park. Then, on Sunday afternoon, flames gutted the rear of an Elmwood Park house. Then, in River Edge, firefighters rescued a trio of baby squirrels after a huge tree limb hit a rear deck.
