YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Bergen County prosecutor’s detectives today charged a 74-year-old New Milford man with pouring gasoline through a neighbor’s mailslot and then trying to light it yesterday morning.

Louis Fallon, a widower who lives on Allessandrini Avenue, was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with second-degree aggravated arson with the danger of injury.

An undisclosed number of weapons were also seized from  his home, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

According to the prosecutor, “members of the New Milford Police Department responded to a single-family home where an attempt was made to set fire inside a mail slot in the front of the residence.”

He wasn’t successful, Molinelli said.

“Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit – Arson Squad and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office BCI Unit were subsequently requested to the scene for further investigation.

“Investigation at the scene led detectives to speak with Fallong and conduct a search of his home, resulting in the recovery of additional evidence and Fallon’s arrest,” Molinelli said.

A judge ordered that Fallon not have any contact with the alleged intended victim as a condition of bail.
