UPDATE: An internal affairs investigation led a New Milford police officer to resign two days before he was arrested in Elmwood Park last week on charges of carrying crack cocaine, a hypodermic syringe and drug paraphernalia, sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
Daniel Demarco, 28, of Lodi was released on a court summons after being arrested Friday afternoon in the parking lot of the Elmwood Village Apartment Complex off Boulevard.
He was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol and later was released to a relative after his arrest, Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
Demarco — who’d been a police officer a little over two years — submitted his resignation, effective immediately, last Wednesday, April 1.
New Milford police “were extremely pro-active” in dealing with him, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the situation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT . “When one of us [messes] up, we should be the first ones reporting it and correcting the problem so the public maintains faith and confidence in us.”
