ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: New Milford police charged a Dumont man with heroin and hypodermic needle possession following a routine traffic stop.

After spotting a car with a malfunctioning brake light heading north on Madison Avenue, Officer Adam Conboy ran a computer check overnight Saturday and found that he owner was wanted on a warrant out of Elmwood Park.

He stopped the vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Matthew Clark, who told Conboy that he was driving his passenger home from a restaurant where they both worked as waiters, Sgt. Brian Long told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

Backup Officer Kevin Morris interviewed and patted down the passenger.

Conboy, meanwhile, said he spotted bundles of envelopes that turned out to contain heroin in the center console as Clark tried to retrieve his cellphone, keys and valuables. He said he later found hypodermic needles, as well.

Clark remained held today on $32,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with various counts of drug and hypodermic needle possession. He also was issued summonses for driving while carrying drugs and having a faulty brake light.

His passenger was released.
