The 33-year-old mother entered the Piaget Avenue library around noon Monday holding the baby in her arms, then left him and a bag of belonging with a volunteer and said she'd be right back, Lt. Robert Bracken told Daily Voice.

Library staff "immediately contacted the police and afforded care to the child until officers arrived," Bracken said.

Officer Randy Colondres chased the woman down on Day Street as she walked away frm the library, the lieutenant said.

She admitted leaving the boy, explaining that she'd arranged a dropoff with a Division of Child Protection and Permanency case worker earlier but became impatient while waiting.

Police arrested her on charges of child endangerment and abandonment, Bracken said. DCPP workers took custody of the boy, he said.
