LYNDHURST, N.J. -- Lyndhurst police busted a Belleville couple with 70 pounds of pot during a traffic stop, authorities said Monday.

White quickly noticed a strong odor of raw marijuana, he said.

A patdown of the passenger, 26-year-old Alexander Hernandez, turned up several cell phones, more than $2,000 in cash and an Oxycodone pill, Valente said.

The driver, 24-year-old Janetty Cordero, admitted having pot in a container in her pocketbook, he said.

A search of the vehicle turned up "four large laundry bags full of marijuana in numerous plastic sealed bags," the captain said.

Hernandez was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on charges of possessing drugs with the intent to sell them in a school zone.

Cordero was released pending a hearing on similar charges. She also received summonses for having no front license plate and tinted windows.
