The man, who lives nearby, had already walked past Thomas Jefferson Middle School and was in the parking lot when he "lost his legs" around 2 p.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler told Daily Voice."A back issue," Metzler said. "He grabbed on to the back of a pickup truck [to keep from falling] and his pants fell down."

The man told a borough woman who sought that he needed a ride. So she called police.

"He was hanging on to the truck, then hit the ground just as we pulled up," Metzler said.

School officials kept watch, meanwhile.

"It was far enough away from the school [not to be a danger]," the sergeant said. "They were monitoring from there."

The Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps was summoned.
