Goodbye to old gown, thanks to The Valley Hospital

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Most people dread the exposed back — and backside — of the average hospital gown, so The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood did something about it. Top administrators at the hospital model the new garb.

The hospital also produced alternatives that feel more like pajamas or loungewear, with tee shirts and long johns for infants.

“We know the traditional gowns are a sore spot for patients,” said Ann Marie Leichman, Vice-President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, “so we decided to do something about that.”

The hospital begins using the new adultwear on Monday. The kids’ version was introduced earlier this year.

“We’ve gotten a great response to the new designs from parents,” said Jeffrey Bienstock, M.D., Director of Pediatrics. “They love the cute designs and the children seem to like being able to wear something comfortable and familiar that reminds them of their own pajamas.

“Anything that can reduce the stress associated with a hospitalization for children and their families is a wonderful thing.”
