Fair Lawn Church Burglaries Tied To Man Charged With Teaneck Priest Assault

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Fingerprints left during the thefts of laptops and cash from two Fair Lawn churches produced burglary charges against a Paterson man already charged with assaulting a priest during similar crimes in Teaneck, authorities said Monday.

Detective Anthony Lugo and Detective Sgt. Tim O'Shaughnessy charged Robert Quinones, 43, with the break-ins at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Broadway on March 22, 2015 and at Warren Point Presbyterian Church, also on Broadway, on April 4, 2015, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Quinones was served with the complaints at the Passaic County Jail, where he was being held in connection with two dozen car burglaries in Clifton.

Five months ago, police said, Quinones struck a Church of Saint Anastasia priest in the chest in Teaneck during a series break-ins a year earlier at two churches and two schools there.

Police said they found nine offices broken into at the Teaneck Road church, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Also left behind was blood left after the intruder broke a glass portion of an exterior door to get in, Police Chief Robert A. Carney said at the time.

Moments later, The Community School across the street was burglarized, Carney said.

Police from Teaneck and Englewood "discovered a broken window on the south side of the building and blood stains on the blinds," he said.

Minutes later, another burglar alarm sounded at the Community School around the corner on West Forest Avenue.

Police found an open window, Carney said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to collect evidence and assist with the investigation, he said.

Two days later, police were back at Saint Anastasia to investigate a criminal mischief report -- and found two windows that apparently were broken during an attempted burglary.

DNA analysis tests on the blood at the New Jersey State Police Laboratory pointed to Quinones.
