BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A bomb threat Friday morning cleared several area high schools -- including Bergenfield, Hackensack, Teaneck and Waldwick -- in yet another apparent swatting incident.

Teaneck was the first of the schools to be checked and deemed fine just before 9:30 a.m., Anthony Cureton of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office told Daily Voice. Students who'd been relocated to the Rodda Center returned.

Students at other schools that were evacuated would be returning shortly, he said, after the sheriff's Bomb Squad swept them with bomb-sniffing dogs.

Mahwah and Waldwick did shelter in place, both of which were lifted..

Meanwhile, local police throughout Bergen went to schools in their towns as a precautionary measure.

Although swatting incidents nationwide have been more nuisance than anything, authorities say they must treat each and every one with the utmost priority, for obvious reasons.

"People don't realize how simple it is to set up a robocall," a North Jersey tactical officer told Daily Voice. "They think it's some kind of sophisticated network of guys, when it really only takes some kid who knows what he's doing a few minutes."

Most of the calls came in to the high schools, although the one in Bergenfield was to Washington Elementary School around 8:40 a.m., Police Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.

“The origin of the call and caller is under investigation at this time,” he said.
