DUMONT, N.J. -- Dumont police urged citizens to lock their cars following a weekend burglary spree.

It was around 3 a.m. Sunday when surveillance video caught car burglars who'd broken into unlocked cars on Juniper Street, Harding Avenue and the Delong Avenue area, resident Michael Flood told Daily Voice.

They were "taking anything of value," Flood said.

One victim had a bag stolen containing personal information that was used within hours for credit card applications and identity fraud, he said.

Police reminded residents that car burglars and thieves are looking for unlocked vehicles and will walk right by one that's locked.

Don't leave valuables in plain view, either, they warned.

That goes for any vehicle owner in any town.

" 'Tis the season for thieves," Dumont police said. "Don't give them the opportunity."
