Kenneth Sutiak, 34, wrote on his Facebook page that he wanted to be a police officer "but something bad happened so [I']m blaming them not me."
He also said tht he'd battled alcoholism, "and it makes me a [expletive]. I am sorry, but undrestand this is a disease and I am working on getting better.
"[I] am under extreme stress," he added, in an aside to a friend. "[I]f you can invite me on your/brother's boat and we can just relax it would be a big help on me."
Clifton police on Tuesday released a mugshot of Sutiak, who they said barricaded himself in his bedroom with several handguns -- one of which he fired into a wall -- before being peacefully taken into custody after a SWAT team burst in more than seven hours later.
Sutiak "threatened to kill anyone who entered the residence" Sunday night, according to Clifton Police Lt. Robert Bracken.
He also released his mother during the Dalewood Road standoff, law enforcement sources at the scene told Daily voice.
Clifton patrol officers and detectives set up a perimeter around the residence after the 6:30 p.m. call came in and eventually evacuated residents from certain areas of the neighborhood.
At 7:45 p.m., Sutiak fired a shot in the bedroom didn't strike anyone, Bracken said.
Officers from the Clifton Police Hostage Negotiaion Team, the Passaic County Sheriff's Department SWAT Team, the Passaic County Sheriff's Department Hostage Negotiation Team and the Clifton Fire Department also responded, the lieutenant said.
Evacuated residents were sheltered in nearby hotels and Clifton City Hall, he said.
Hostage negotiators "were able to make contact with [Sutiak] via telephone," Bracken said. "However, [he] refused to surrender."
At 1:40 a.m., the SWAT team went in and seized him without incident.
Sutiak was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center under police guard, charged with weapons possession and making terroristic threats.
