UPDATE: A Bergenfield who authorities said they have on cellphone video sucker-punching a bartender in the face in Hell’s Kitchen pleaded guilty this morning to trying to run from police, Secaucus Municipal Court officials confirmed.
Corey Pohan, 32, got credit for time served and must pay a $256 fine for hopping out of a Manhattan detectives’ car at the New Jersey Turnpike 16E/18E toll plaza as they were returning him to the city for questioning two weeks ago.
A trooper found him hiding on the roof of the toll plaza, State Police said.
A day earlier, authorities said, Pohan punched 49-year-old Paul Martone at the corner of West 55th Street and Ninth Avenue after an argument began between the victim’s companion and Pohan over a 4-year-old chihuahua named Peanuts.
Martone’s companion apparently got upset when Pohan stepped over the dog. Martone joined the argument with Pohan, who the NYPD said followed him down the street.
Cellphone camera video shows the punch, followed by Pohan running from the scene as Martone goes down.
Martone reportedly sustained a head injury after hitting his head on the pavement.
Pohan already was developing a reputation after arguing with an employee at a Columbus Circle bicycle rental stand, according to city media reports.
NYPD detectives grabbed Pohan at his mother’s house in Lakewood after the sucker-punching incident was broadcast on metropolitan-area television and posted online.
Today’s court appearance was conducted via closed circuit TV from the Hudson County Jail, where Pohan had been held since the Secaucus incident. New York City officials will now seek extradition.
Pohan recently posted photos of himself on Facebook surfing at exotic locations around the world.
He described himself as: “32 years single male never married, six pack sicker then its ever bin, hair more blonde, eyes more green. Living in Manhattan in the summers and travelling the world in the winters. I thank [G]od that I am in the best shape of my life without a wife and so much opportunities for the future. For all my brothers who still have this life style we are so blessed.”
