Three of the bottles -- including one worth $27,999 and another worth $21,999 -- were taken from a lock box the thieves jimmied open at Total Wine & More, the company's loss prevention department said.
A bottle of Pinch was taken as a decoy, the department said in an alert.
The six suspects -- all in their mid-to-late 20s -- entered the popular store just off Route 4 around 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to the alert.
They then used shopping carts to block an aisle while one of them bent down three or four times to pry open the lock box, it says.
He stopped at one point when customers were nearby, the alert notes.
When the aisle was full with customers, they walked away, grabbing the Pinch, worth $68.99, it says.
They then returned to the lock box aisle and blocked it, the alert says, while removing three bottles of Scotch:
- 1952 Tullibardine ($27,999);
- Highland Park 50 Year Old ($21,999)
- Macallan V5 Reflexion ($1,899.99)
The crew walked down the aisle before exiting the building at 6:51 p.m. with empty carts, getting into a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee and taking off, according to the alert.
"Throughout the 20 minutes they were in the store, the suspects, working as lookouts, were placing items into [a] shopping cart that later may have been abandoned elsewhere in the store," it says.
If you recognize any of the suspects, or have information that could help the investigation, authorities ask that you call River Edge police: (201) 262-1233.
