Matthew Hayes, 67, Dumont Resident

DUMONT, N.J. -- Matthew Hayes, of Dumont, died on Saturday, Feb. 4. He was 67.

Hayes was a truck driver with All Chem Transport Co., of Lakewood, for more than 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 560. 

He was a former councilman of Dumont and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. Johns Council No. 1345, as well as a past Faithful Navigator of the Color Corps. He also served as chairman for the March for Life drive. 

Hayes was also a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, in Dumont, where he was a member of the Parish Council and also served as an usher. He was a coach for many Dumont sports programs.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna (Lipane) Hayes; children Tina Williams and her husband Lateef, David Hayes and his wife Lisa, and Keri Hayes-Williams and her husband Shawn; grandchildren Wayne, Anthony, Derek, Hannah and Hailey; and siblings Patricia, Dorothy, Veronica and Kathleen. 

Hayes was preceded by his parents, Dorothy (Kelly) and Matthew Hayes.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., in Dumont. A mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary’s Church, in Dumont. Entombment will follow, at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, in North Arlington.
