John M. Babich, 70, Dumont Resident

DUMONT, N.J. -- John M. Babich, of Dumont, died on Sunday, Jan. 29. He was 70.

Babich lived most of his life in Bergenfield, before settling in Dumont several years ago. After he graduated from Bergenfield High School, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a sergeant, receiving many commendations for his service.

He then became an expert carpet installer and did that his entire career. Later, he was a school crossing guard for the Dumont School District. He enjoyed bowling and visiting Lake George, New York, and Norway. He was also a New York Yankees fan, and he was a thoroughbred racing aficionado. 

Babich is survived by his wife, Evelyn Joan Babich; brother Peter Babich; aunt Ginny Baudisch; cousin Laura and her husband Paul; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded by his sister, Ruth Babich, and his uncle, Bernard Baudisch.

Visitation will be from 1:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Rd., in New Milford. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Saint Therese of Lisieux Parish, in Cresskill.
