Gladys Lewis, 58, Former Bergenfield Resident

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Gladys J. Lewis -- a Melbourne, Florida, resident, formerly of Bergenfield and Clifton -- died on Friday March 4. She was 68.

Born in Harlem, Lewis attended Norman Thomas High School and Pace University. Her career was accounting and bookkeeping, and she worked for companies including Sotheby’s, Prodigy, Single World Cruises and MTS Frames.

She attended Manhattan's Lagree Baptist Church. She was in the choir, was on the usher board and was a nurse’s aide. In 1998, she began attending Mount Calvary Baptist Church, in Englewood, where she was a church clerk, chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry, co-chair women’s ministry and assistant to the pastor.

Lewis is survived by her husband, deacon Anthony Lewis; stepsons Anthony and Cerrone Lewis, both of Queens; stepdaughters Ceray Lewis of Harlem and Ciara Lewis of Irvington, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; siblings James, Ronnie, Fred and Beverly Lewis; aunt Grace Jenkins; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives and friends. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel Lewis and Sally Jenkins Lewis, and her brother, Granville Lewis.

Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 90 West Demarest Ave., in Englewood, with a 7 p.m. celebration of life. Nesbitt Funeral Home, in Englewood, is assisting with arrangements.
