NEW MILFORD, N.J. – Francis B. Mooney, of New Milford, died Tuesday, April 26. He was 87.
A Korean War veteran and die hard New York Mets fan, he was born in New York City and lived there until he and his late wife, Mary Ann (Schoenfeld), settled in New Milford in 1955. Prior to retiring in 1985, he worked for the MTA for 30 years as a bus mechanic and was a loyal member of the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority Union Local 100.
He was the father of James Mooney, Catherine Elalfi, Joseph Mooney, William Mooney, John Mooney and Kevin Mooney; grandfather of Ericka, Bryan, Joseph, Michael, Alexander, Sean and Kelly; and great-grandfather of Riley and Evan.
He was predeceased by wife, Mary Ann; and his sisters, Cecelia and Helen.
Visitation will take place from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford. A funeral service will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Holy Name Medical Center Foundation .
