Pascrell, a coach for the Democratic congressional baseball team, sent out Tweets and a Facebook message Wednesday morning following the shooting.

“I was on the field this morning for Democratic team practice when we heard about the horrific shooting across the river in Virginia. My thoughts are with my friend Steve Scalise, Republican team staff, and the brave Capitol Police officers, who sprang into action. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. We stand as one against this senseless brutality,” Pascrell wrote in a Facebook post.

Republican Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana and one or more aids were among those shot.

The practices were being held prior to the annual bipartisan Congressional charity baseball game pitting Republicans vs. Democrats scheduled to be played Thursday at the Washington Nationals' baseball park.
