Bergenfield came in at number three on the list, which identified communities with a population of more than 10,000 people in 2013 and reported complete crime data to the FBI.

"Bergenfield’s enviable quality of life and affordability are a few reasons it was named the Garden State’s second best community to raise a family. Low crime is another," SafeWise said in its survey.

"Bergenfield residents can brag that, over the course of the year, their community moved up five positions on our list. Plus, a nominal 16 burglaries were reported to law enforcement, which is quite an accomplishment for a community of nearly 30,000."

SafeWise reviewed the latest FBI Crime Report statistics, comparing the number of reported violent crimes (murder, robbery, rape, and aggravated assault) and property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) in each city.
