BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Happy Birthday to Bergenfield’s Bob Gaudio!

Born in the Bronx, but raised in New Jersey, Gaudio turns 74, Nov. 17.

The songwriter/keyboardist/singer is best known for his stint as a member of the Four Seasons.

The other members of the American rock and pop band were Frankie Valli, lead vocals; Tommy DeVito, lead guitar; and Nick Massi, electric bass and bass vocals.

Gaudio, who provided tenor vocals, wrote the band’s first big hit, “Sherry.”

He subsequently wrote a string of hits for the group, including “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man” and “Rag Doll.”

Gaudio stopped touring with the group in 1971 to concentrate on writing and producing.

In addition to his work for the Four Seasons and for Frank Sinatra, Gaudio also wrote and produced for Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, Diana Ross, Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack.

In 1990, the members of the Four Seasons who were part of the group from 1960-65 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Gaudio also is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
