DUMONT, N.J. — More than $12,700 had been raised as of Sunday night on a GoFundMe page launched by a Dumont emergency medical specialist for his longtime colleague battling cancer.

Dennis Boos created the site when Newark University Hospital EMT Scott "Stitches" Williams was re-diagnosed with cancer in January after 1 year of remission.

Williams, who was a 9/11 first responder, raised $40,000 for Boos when his house burned down in 2013.

"Scott is always the first guy to step up and help someone else out and now he needs our help," Boos told Daily Voice.

The funds raised for Williams, a member of the state EMS task force, will be used to cover his treatment at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, which is not covered by his medical insurance.

Boos said most of the money raised for Williams was by fellow EMTs.

"EMS is very tight knit community and it was nice to see other EMS agencies put all this money into a bucket and help someone they didn’t even know," Boos said.
