BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A school crossing guard who was hit by a car last week in front of a synagogue on New Bridge Road has been released from the hospital and is in physical therapy, according to NorthJersey.com.

Her husband told the website Jo-Ann Hans was discharged Thursday from Hackensack University Medical Center and is in Kessler Institute now, where she is receiving therapy to regain her ability to walk and her short-term memory. Hans, of Bergenfield, was managing traffic at Congregation Beth Abraham during Rosh Hashanah services when she was struck by a Honda Civic and left in critical condition, according to NorthJersey.com.

Pawothil Abraham of Bergenfield, 63, was driving the car that hit Hans, police said. He received summonses for failure to obey a crossing guard, failure to stop for a pedestrian and careless driving, NorthJersey.com said.
