The Twisted Elm Tavern, 435 River Drive, Elmwood Park, (201) 791-3705
Why Go: Brunch comes with a complimentary cocktail and a basket of the tavern’s own muffins and biscuits. It's also well known for its Irish Eggs Benedict with grilled soda bread, spicy shrimp and grits, and lemon ricotta blintzes. The bad news: the tavern takes a brunch break after its big Father’s Day blowout meaning brunch isn't available again until September.
Worth Waking Up For: Now here’s something you don’t normally see on a brunch menu – pizza! Twisted Elm makes two: one with sausage and egg and the other, with smoked salmon, crème fraiche, capers, and red onions. And for something that’s "healthier,"there’s a “superfood” salad with julienne veggies, roasted peanuts and sesame ginger vinaigrette. Last but not least, the bacon Bloody Mary draws raves, but, hey, doesn't everything go better with bacon?
When: Saturdays and Sundays, 11:30 to 2:30 September through June.
Prix Fixe? No. Menu items are individually priced, though you do get a complimentary cocktail with brunch.
