BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- No burger or sandwich is complete without an order of fries. Whether you like them shoestring skinny, crispy and crinkled or golden brown and fried to perfection, they remain one of America's favorite sides.
DVlicious Ask: Who Has Bergen's Best Fries?
Bidy O' Malley's, Norwood
Giannella's Delicatessen & Bakery, Glen Rock
Lido Restaurant, Hackensack
Riverview East, Elmwood Park
Rony's Rockin' Grill, Bergenfield
You've chosen five finalists as the DVlicious best in Bergen; now it's time to vote. First, though, grab some ketchup and pour over the following. Just don't blame us if you get hungry!
Type of Fry: 3/8 long with the skin on.
What Makes Them So Addictive: The potatoes are crushed and washed and kept in saltwater for a couple of hours, then drained and pre-fried until ready to be served. They are then fried again and made using fresh soybean oil. The oil is always clean which helps create the ideal, non-greasy fry. Owner Rony Alvarado says they are never put under a heat lamp. "They go straight from the fryer to the basket to your plate."
Aside from Rony's "regular" fries, customers are also quite fond of the "Disco Sucks" fries, which are smothered in homemade gravy and cheddar cheese sauce.
A reminder: Voting ends Tuesday, May 31 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
