BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- St. Anthony’s Orthodox Christian Church in Bergenfield will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee anniversary in 2016, beginning Jan. 17 with its Patronal Feast Day.

His Grace Bishop Nicholas will join the congregation to kick off the year of celebration. To observe the church’s 60th anniversary as the first Pan-Orthodox Parish in North America, each month from January through June, there will be one event leading to a commemoration June 11-12 when Metropolitan Joseph will join Bergenfield worshipers for special observations services.

Alice Ziemba and Jim Tweel are co-chairs of the year-long celebration, which also is marking the 50th anniversary of ordination of the church’s pastor, the Very Rev. Joseph Allen, into the priesthood. Allen is the church’s third pastor, serving the congregation since 1967.

St. Anthony’s Church was the first Eastern Orthodox Church in the Western Hemisphere. It was formed to serve members from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia, Romania, in addition to converts from the western world.

St. Anthony’s is at 385 Ivy lane, Bergenfield. For more information, call (201) 568-8840, or click here .
