NEW MILFORD, N.J. — Jean Kupfer of River Edge bit into her hot dog at a gourmet tasting at Fresh and Fancy Farms in New Milford Saturday.

“This topping is so good,” she said. “There’s caramelized onions and cheese and it tastes like some raspberry jam, too.”

Kupfer and her son, Ben, were two of 275 people who came to the one-acre farm, owned by the Low family, to enjoy an autumn afternoon of fun, flowers, fresh food, cider, and pumpkin painting.

Megan Low-Nobile and her family prepared hot dogs with four scrumptious seasonal toppings – and homemade fries – from noon to 3 p.m.

“We had a roasted pumpkin topping with parmesan cheese, sage, and roasted pepitas,” Nobile said.

“Everything was grown right here on the farm,” she added.

The other toppings on hot dogs Saturday were: rosemary, raspberry, and caramelized onion with gruyere cheese; apple sausage with cinnamon and local honey; and maple bacon made with New York maple syrup.

Seasonal tastings at the farm are a local tradition.

Up next are a pizza and bonfire tasting with Santa Claus and a breakfast with Santa Claus. Dates will be announced at the farm website HERE.

The family also hosts farm-to-table dinners at its long wood table under the stars or in its White Barn. The next ones are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 and 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

The Low family has owned the 100-year-old farm for five years. They bought it from Bill and Sharron Klinger.
